Warning lights and countdowns

Why has my AdBlue warning come on?

Usually one of four things: the tank is low, the fluid is poor quality or contaminated, a sensor has failed (often a NOx sensor), or part of the system such as the pump or heater has a fault. A diagnostic check tells us which. See why an AdBlue warning light will not go off.

I have topped up but the light is still on. Why?

Topping up only fixes a low level. If the warning stays, the system has logged a fault that needs reading and repairing, or the fluid quality sensor is reporting bad fluid.

What does "no start in 500 miles" mean?

The vehicle has a fault it treats as serious and is counting down to stop the engine restarting. Once it reaches zero it will not start, so get it checked before then.

Can I keep driving with the AdBlue light on?

For a short while, but the countdown keeps going and some vehicles drop into limp mode. It is cheaper to fix it before it locks out than to have it recovered after.

Faults and fixes

What are the most common AdBlue faults?

NOx sensor failures, AdBlue pump and heater faults, crystallised injectors, and poor-quality fluid. Each needs a different fix, which is why we diagnose first.

I fitted a new NOx sensor and the fault came back. Why?

Many vehicles need the new sensor adapting in the software after it is fitted. If that step is missed, the fault often returns.

Do you fix the fault or just clear the light?

We find and fix the cause. Clearing codes without fixing the fault just means the light comes back.

Can you fix it at my home or work?

Yes. We are fully mobile and do the work on your drive, at your depot or at the roadside, wherever it is safe to work.

Repair, removal and the law

What is the difference between repair and removal?

Repair fixes the faulty part or software so the AdBlue system works as designed. Removal disables the system in software. We explain both, and what each means for your vehicle, before any work.

Is AdBlue removal legal?

Removing or disabling emissions equipment on a vehicle used on UK public roads is not road legal and can lead to an MOT failure. For road vehicles we recommend repairing the fault. Read more on AdBlue delete.

Is my original ECU file kept?

Yes. Before any software work we save the factory file, so it can be put back later.

Will a repair affect my MOT?

A proper repair with the codes cleared keeps the vehicle MOT-ready.
