The Moorlands is a big, rural district, and large parts of it are inside the Peak District National Park. A van that drops into limp mode near Longnor or Waterhouses can be a long way from any garage, which is exactly where a mobile fix earns its keep.
Leek is the hub of the road network: the A53 runs down to Stoke and up over the moors to Buxton, and the A520 heads south past Leekbrook towards Stone. The A520 and A522 meet at Wetley Rocks, with the A522 carrying on to Uttoxeter, while the A52 runs out through Werrington, Cellarhead and Kingsley towards Ashbourne.
In the north, the A527 links Biddulph with Congleton and Stoke. In the south-west, Blythe Bridge and Forsbrook sit just off the A50, and the A523 takes you from Leek through Waterhouses towards Ashbourne.
